How to Get “The Ellington Look” in Your Home

Makeover Tips from The Ellington Interior Designer Audrey Long
as seen on ABC’s Channel 6 Action News

If you are lucky enough to have high ceilings and open space like we do at The Ellington, use big furniture pieces to emphasize the grandness of your home. Stay away from small, fussy pieces and clutter! They actually make the space feel smaller.

Kitchens have become the heart of a home – a place where everyone loves to gather. If you have the opportunity, open the space to the rest of your home to really give a feeling of spaciousness. A trend that continues to be popular is the use of brushed metal and stainless steel in everything from the fixtures, the sink and the refrigerator. Not only does it reflect a sophisticated elegance in your kitchen, it does double duty of being easy to clean and functional.

Out with bathtubs! The new trend in bathrooms is a spa-like shower. Here at The Ellington, our bathroom is outfitted with an oversized dual shower system for two. We’ve used cool Carerra marble to add elegance to the room and combined it the our neutral color palette of chocolate brown and taupe to really give the room warmth.

Here at The Ellington, we use a neutral backdrop to create a soothing, luxurious feel. But neutral doesn’t have to be boring! Make use of bright accent pieces, such as the green vases and glass votive candles in our living room, to add excitement. Then you can always change the feel of the room by changing your accent pieces.

We really wanted to create a feel of sumptuous luxury in our bedroom. Again, we’ve opened up the space with an oversize king bed and a striped wallpaper finish behind it to draw the eye up to the high ceiling and out to the surrounding uncluttered calm space. A whimsical accent piece is the chandelier at the foot of the bed. Lighting is so important to set the mood in a bedroom, creating a place to relax, unwind, and destress from the world outside.
